‘Detective Dot and the Misfit Doctor’

‘Detective Dot and the Misfit Doctor’ is a self-initiated project that I made for Inktober 2019. I gave myself the task of producing a story, created over 31 days with animation and illustration. I wanted the images and animations to feel like a middle grade book so reproduced the grayscale palette that I used on ‘Get Me Out Of Here’ (Scholastic 2019). Each day I would create a new animation or illustration based on Inktober single word prompts. The challenge was to create a coherent narrative using seemingly random prompts.

‘Was this the call Detective Dot had been waiting for?’
’It was, mindless acts of thievery across the city! First stop, the museum
to investigate the case of the missing skulls!’

Illustrations were created in Photoshop with the animations made with After Effects. I kept the animations short and simple due to the self-imposed time constraints, not wanting to spend more than a few hours on each post.
